I found a potential product and see it on Alibaba as an item that can be manufactured.  I went into Seller Central to try to list an existing one I found on Amazon and got the error 

  • You need approval to list in this brand.

Does this just mean the specific listing is protected and when I source a product I will need to get a UPC code to be able to list my own?

It most likely means that it’s a registered and brand gated brand. Usually, in this case, you would need to get approval from the brand to sell it on Amazon. Further, if it’s coming from Alibaba, and is a well-known brand, it’s probably counterfeit (unless it’s a Chinese brand). Hope this helps!
